We are often asked about how we got started in the wine business, and the answer is always the same: We are passionate about wine!
Traveling has always been an important aspect in our lives, and during our journeys we have come across superb wines from some wonderful places and simply fallen in love with them.
Unfortunately, when we returned, we would find that our newly discovered wines were not available back home. We would call the higher-end wine shops without luck. We even contacted the importers themselves only to be told that they were simply not interested in small producers. Thus our business model was born.
Marge, John and Chris, the owners of SCD Trading, travel extensively each year searching for great wines that No One Else Has! Our family's delight is to establish lasting relationships with these small producers and their families, learning the stories and history behind each wine. Our wines are never purchased from auctions or overstock from other importers. Just click on any of our fascinating wines to learn about how they were discovered during our journeys. An unfortunate side note of our business model lies with the small producers themselves. None of them produce the vast amounts of wine necessary to become either commercially popular or recognized as a household name - but maybe that's exactly the type of wine you would like on your table!
Since 2003 many importers, both the well-established and new comers, have been making claims that they now provide wines from small producers or that their wine is fair-trade certified, when this is simply not true.
